Earth is plunged into darkness
Older people’s confidence in the fact that even before the sun was shining brighter than it is now , as it turns out , is under a more than reasonable grounds . British scientist Dr. Garry Stenhill (Gerry Stanhill) based on analysis of long-term records found that the amount of sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface , continuously and rapidly declining. According to BBC , Dr Stenhill , currently working in Israel in 2001 , this phenomenon called ” global dimming ” (global dimming).
Comparing the data on the total amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth’s surface , for the period from the 1950s to the present day , Dr. Stenhill found that this indicator has decreased very significantly – by 22%. Moreover, this trend does not have a local character – a comparison of observations made in different regions of the world , gives a broadly similar picture. Thus, the U.S. sunlight ” tarnished ” by 10% in the USSR – by almost 30% , in the British Isles – 16%. In general , the amount of sunlight reaching the earth was reduced by 2% every decade since the 1950s and up until the 1990s .
Mechanisms and consequences of this phenomenon have been studied insufficiently . Probably phenomenon “global dimming” caused by contamination of the atmosphere of the planet industrial products of human activity. Air pollution, dust particles leads to reflection of solar radiation back into space , and in particular , to a change in the optical properties of the clouds. Dust particles are centers of condensation of water vapor , resulting in droplets in clouds containing dust particles larger than normal , which in turn contributes to increased reflection of solar radiation.
Theory Dr. Stenhilla , initially greeted with disbelief by the scientific community , was recently confirmed its Australian counterparts , who came to similar conclusions using totally different accounting methods of solar radiation. Experts sounded the alarm.
Several scientists speculated that the ” global dimming ” could lead to significant changes in climate processes on the planet and in the circulation of the atmosphere . Perhaps it is the reason it terrible drought affecting the area of the Sahara in the 1970s – 1980s, and led to hundreds of thousands of victims. There is reason to believe that something like this happening before our eyes to Asia , where almost half the world’s population . ” In my opinion, global dimming has a devastating impact on the Asian monsoon , – said the University of California (San Diego ) Virhabhadran Ramanathan (Veerhabhadran Ramanathan). – We are talking about billions of people.”
Very disturbing fact is that this effect contributed to significant underestimation of the true scale of the greenhouse effect , leading to warming. Scientists have long noted a discrepancy between the amount of solar energy absorbed in the atmosphere due to the presence of excess nitrogen dioxide in it , and a relatively slight increase in the average temperature of – 0.6 degrees . British scientists identified ” blackout effect ” , giving the opposite effect , could greatly obscure the greenhouse effect. This in turn may mean that the environment is significantly more sensitive to the greenhouse effect than previously . If this is true , then it is very bad news , according to Dr. Peter Cox (Peter Cox), one of the leading experts on climate modeling . The fact is that just in the last decade carbon dioxide emissions causing the greenhouse effect has increased dramatically , while the emission of dust particles , resulting in the opposite direction to effect of ” global dimming ” , managed to bring under control .
” We find ourselves in a situation in which the allocation of ” cooling ” air pollution is on the wane , and” heating ” it grows – he said . – This means a reduction in the cooling effect with simultaneous increase of the heating action , and this is a big problem .”
Even the most pessimistic forecasts of climate change on the planet , apparently , have to be adjusted to the worst side of humanity . Average temperatures of 10 degrees in 2100 becomes more than real. Significant areas of our planet, perhaps destined to become uninhabitable.
